John Peel 1939-2004
Just heard the news that the legendary DJ John Peel has died of a heart attack, while on holiday in Peru with his wife Sheila.
Words can’t really express the effect Peel had on the UK music scene, broadcasting his pioneering radio shows on Radio 1 for over 40 years, it’s such a shock to loose someone that seemed to be destined to be around for ever.
He wouldn’t think twice about following a light acoustic folk track with the heaviest Amen tearout Drum ‘n Bass tune you ever heard, only to follow that with indie, then punk, then maybe a 1930’s blues track. To him, it was all just music; no boundaries, no genres, just great sound.
He will be very, very sorely missed by everyone, including myself.
Rest in peace John.
As a sidenote, Jeannie’s gran Vi died yesterday at the grand old age of 100.
